Course Overview

Where you visit online and what you do there is no secret. Your web search history, preferences, relationships, social media accounts, usernames, passwords, and even your location data are unfortunately not as private as you may have thought. Instead, you may become increasingly uncomfortable when you realize how much of your life is accessible and available online. The aggregation of multiple digital footprint data points can yield substantial insight and a pattern-of-life-like profile on everyday Internet users like yourself. While this is exciting news for investigators and cybersecurity professionals, it is imperative that you know what data can be exposed.

This course is designed to introduce you to the concept of digital footprints and bring awareness to the consequences of naïve and irresponsible data sharing online. You will learn how to recognize your own digital footprint, how it is created, and how to minimize it. Other topics covered in this hands-on course include advanced Google search techniques, steps to protect your privacy on social media, web browser forensics, and how digital footprints can fuel successful phishing campaigns.

At the end of this course, you will be able to articulate clearly to a non-technical audience the concept of digital footprints and lead discussions around leveraging various techniques and methodologies to harness digital footprint data.
