You will start by understanding the foundational Nmap commands to perform host discovery, port scanning, and service detection, allowing you to identify active systems and exposed services on a network. As the lab progresses, you will explore Zenmap, the graphical interface for Nmap, which helps visualize scan results and simplifies configuration for complex scans. You will then perform both TCP and UDP scans, gaining insight into how these protocols reveal different network behaviors and service availability. Further, the lab covers firewall evasion techniques, teaching you how to bypass network filters and gain visibility into protected systems using Nmap's advanced scanning options. You will also delve into Nmap scripting, using powerful NSE (Nmap Scripting Engine) scripts to assess the security of SSH services, including brute-force simulations and fingerprint analysis, and to detect known vulnerabilities across various services. By the end of the lab, you will have built a strong foundation in scanning techniques, analysis of network defenses, and identifying potential security risks using Nmap.
