Course Overview

In the digital age, information is more accessible than ever, making reconnaissance a critical phase in both offensive and defensive cybersecurity strategies. This course delves into Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) and reconnaissance techniques used by ethical hackers, penetration testers, and cybersecurity professionals. Understanding how attackers gather information is key to building stronger defenses and identifying exposure points in personal, corporate, and network environments.

This course begins with an introduction to reconnaissance and progresses into setting up a secure virtual lab environment, including VPN configuration, DNS leak prevention, and using sock puppets. You'll then explore people search techniques using search engines, breach data, and tools like Maltego. In the social media chapter, you’ll uncover information through reverse image searches, archived data, and satellite mapping tools. Website and server scanning is covered through tools such as Nmap, Metagoofil, Shodan, and Spiderfoot. You will also learn how attackers and researchers gather infrastructure data using DIG and BuiltWith. The course concludes with essential employee best practices for social media, phishing awareness, and password hygiene, followed by strategies to build strong network defenses with firewalls, IDS/IPS, policies, and auditing.

By the end, you'll understand how digital footprints are traced and learn methods to identify, reduce, and secure your personal and organizational online exposure.
