Course Overview

Data privacy or information privacy is concerned with the proper handling of personal data – consent, notice, and regulatory data protection obligations. Data privacy principles are reflected by the policies and procedures governing the collection, storage, processing, access, and sharing of personal data. However, it’s not possible to ensure data privacy solely with privacy policies and procedures, privacy needs a holistic approach. 

The course beings with the basics of data privacy, its importance, and the role of security in ensuring data privacy. Moving on, you will learn visibility over personal information and the data protection regulatory landscape. Next, you will know about privacy governance structures and further understand the importance of privacy policy and processes.

Moving on, you will explore the engineering aspects of privacy and learn strategies to engineer data subject’s rights from the requirements, to design and development until privacy verification. After that, you will discover the human aspects of privacy through privacy awareness, training, and education. Finally, you will learn about how to respond to privacy and security incidents involving personal data. 

By the end of the course, you will ensure data access and data privacy compliance quickly and effectively in your organizations.

Dr. Serna has vast experience in the different aspects of privacy and data protection, such as legal, psychological, societal, and technical. She combines her scientific background with her industry experience to apply state-of-the-art concepts and technologies to implement methods, processes, and tools to monitor privacy and ensure data protection compliance. Dr. Serna is a passionate trainer and university lecturer who has designed training programs focused on the intersections of cyber security, privacy, and usability and has succeeded in preparing privacy researchers for their incorporation into the industry.
