Course Overview

Large Language Models (LLMs) are increasingly used in chatbots, AI assistants, enterprise applications, and automated workflows. As organizations rely more heavily on these systems, understanding their security weaknesses becomes essential. Prompt injection is one of the most important threats to LLM applications because attackers can manipulate model instructions, bypass intended controls, and influence AI behavior. This course begins with how LLMs process prompts and introduces the core vulnerability of prompt injection before progressing into direct attack vectors, persona-based attacks, and practical challenges such as the Gandalf Challenge. It then explores indirect prompt injection, RAG poisoning, agent-based attacks, invisible text injection, real-world failures involving Bing Sydney and the Chevy chatbot, defense-in-depth strategies, and automated AI red teaming using Promptfoo, Garak, and PyRIT. The course concludes with a CTF challenge and practical application of the concepts covered. By completing this course, you will understand how to identify, test, exploit, and defend against prompt injection and other common LLM security threats.

What You Will Learn

  • Execute Direct and Indirect Prompt Injection attacks to expose vulnerabilities in LLMs, RAG pipelines, and autonomous AI Agents.
  • Design a robust "Defense-in-Depth" architecture to protect AI applications from malicious inputs, data exfiltration, and unauthorized actions.
  • Automate AI Red Teaming and security testing using industry-standard tools like Promptfoo, Garak (NVIDIA), and PyRIT (Microsoft).
  • Harden system prompts and implement input/output validation to effectively mitigate the #1 vulnerability on the OWASP LLM Top 10.
  • Identify and exploit advanced AI attack vectors, including RAG knowledge base poisoning, multimodal image injection, and invisible text steganography.
  • Analyze real-world AI security failures (like the GitHub Copilot RCE and Bing Chat leaks) to understand attacker mindsets and prevent costly breaches.
