Course Overview

As quantum computing continues to evolve, quantum cryptography is emerging as a revolutionary approach to secure communication by leveraging the laws of quantum mechanics rather than computational hardness. Concepts such as quantum superposition, entanglement, and the no-cloning theorem enable new cryptographic primitives that offer unprecedented security guarantees. This course introduces the foundational principles and advanced protocols that are shaping the future of secure communications.

This course begins with the fundamentals of quantum computing, including the quantum circuit model, quantum oracles, uncertainty, the no-cloning theorem, and the relationship between quantum computing and cryptography. It then explores private quantum money, quantum key distribution through the BB84 and Ekert protocols, and uncloneable encryption techniques. The course continues with advanced quantum cryptographic primitives such as blind quantum computation, public quantum money, and time-release encryption before examining the theoretical limits of quantum cryptography, shadow tomography, and key research directions in the field.

By the end of this course, you will understand the principles, protocols, and limitations of quantum cryptography and their role in securing future communication systems.

Dr. Shai Wyborski

Dr. Shai Wyborski is a Ph.D in quantum cryptography; his research includes studying the relations between uncloneable primitives and proposing new primitives for uncloneable decryption keys. Outside his research work, Shai is an experienced educator and science communicator, with many hours of teaching university classes and lecturing for wide audiences, most famously about the Kaspa cryptocurrency, to which he is one of the original major contributors. Shai earned his Ph.D from the Hebrew University in 2024 under the co-advisory of Prof. Dorit Aharonov and Dr. Or Sattath. In 2019, he earned an M.Sc in mathematical logic from the Hebrew University under the co-advisory of Prof. Ehud Hrushovski and Prof. Itay Kaplan. Shai is a strong proponent of visual learning and believes formal ideas can be communicated to any audience with the right approach.
