Course Overview

A virtual private network (VPN) is a virtual network that creates a safe, encrypted connection over a less secure network, such as the public internet. A VPN uses a technique called tunneling to encrypt data at the sending end and decrypt it at the receiving end.

As the internet took off in bigger dimensions, demand for more secure networks arose. Anti-virus could be effective at preventing damage at the end-user level, but to improve the security of the connection itself, the VPN technology was introduced.

In the current scenario, VPNs are used to secure internet connections, prevent viruses, malware, etc, and hacking, ensure privacy over the internet, unlock restricted content and hide physical locations of users.
